The Exact Right Way to Sell Anything

Plus: Don't Complain When You Get What You Want and 3 Things I Think This Week

Happy Friday! The Fridays Off Newsletter has moved from Tuesdays to Fridays.
Today, I’m off playing golf with friends (and Brad Herda, lol, love ya Brad!) instead of working. What would you do if you had Friday Off? - Pat

Theresa Wilmot of Wilmot Designs came on a Businessing Idea Slam last week with a real problem. She built a subscription offer called Creative Hours. She’s a graphic designer and for $47 a month you could join a call where you could show her your designs and she would help you improve it. It’s a valuable service for non-designers, but it wasn’t selling as much as she hoped.

During the conversation, I took her out of her own head. I said, pretend you’re teaching a bakery owner how to bake tastier cookies. (Equal to better looking designs) It’s a valuable service but your clients don’t necessarily want just tastier cookies. They’re business owners - they want to sell more cookies. They want to spend less time in the kitchen. Cookie taste is important but not the only outcome they’re hoping to achieve.

It's the same with Theresa. She was leading with features: “look more polished and professional,” “get feedback from me and others,” “fix what feels OFF in your design.” But, the outcomes that might motivate more sales include: “spend less time stuck in Canva,” and “build trust and connect clearly with your ideal customer.”

These benefits are already present when you join Theresa’s Creative Hours. But they were implied not clearly stated and promoted. “What’s In It For Me,” is always the guiding principle for sales language. Express the customer transformation and you’re going to see more sales.

A huge thank-you to Theresa for coming on the show. I’m not doing live Idea Slams every day on Businessing with Pat Miller. You should come on the show - click this link to book your free appearance!

Three Things I’m Thinking About This Week

  • One Year From Today - I can’t stop wondering what our daily life will look like once AI Agents are fully deployed in our businesses. I can see a world - SOON - where we don’t have a computer or keyboard on our desk. Just a monitor off to the side and we drive using voice commands. Sounds impossible, but I think it's inevitable.

  • You can now talk with the animals? - There’s a new product that promises we can talk with our pets. It’s called Pettichat and it says they’ve analyzed pet sounds with AI to translate what they’re saying. It’s 99% likely this is AI Slop in product form. But, it would be FUN slop, no?

  • The World Cup is Here and Nobody Cares? - I’m a huge US Soccer Fan and I was so excited when we were awarded the World Cup. The First US match is 2 weeks from today and buzz is non-existent. I know I’ll be locked in from the first second…am I the only one?
