I Quit. Painful to Say, Right Thing to Do...

Earlier this week I quit a recurring meeting with people I deeply care about. It was painful, but it was the right call.

A few business friends and I would hold a monthly conversation to compare notes and support one another. For 18 months or so we rarely missed a call. Then, the cadence started to slip and we have met once or twice in the past six months.

When August’s meeting was cancelled, I realized it was time: "We are all extremely busy, and something always comes up that prevents us from holding the event. I care about you all and my door is always open to you."

A standing commitment that keeps getting rescheduled has already made the decision for you. Nobody's waiting on more information. Somebody just has to say it out loud, and that somebody is you. It's your calendar.

I sent the email, and got back free calendar space. Where could you do the same?

Go look at your calendar this weekend and find your boat anchor. A five minute email will lighten your monthly load.

Most owners don't lose sleep over the legal side of the business...the contracts, the lease, the handshake deal with a partner. It's all fine, right up until the day it isn't, and the legal problems that hurt the most are almost always the preventable ones. That's why Athena Legal Solutions built the Business Legal Confidence Assessment, for exactly that moment before the moment. It takes a few minutes, and you walk away knowing where your business is protected and where you've got a blind spot worth closing. Want to find yours first? Take the free assessment, then book your complimentary Legal Confidence Review with the Athena team, both at athenalegalsolutionsllc.com/businessingwithpatmiller.

Feedback is a gift but it’s not for the faint of heart. The best feedback source is the weekly Idea Slam meetings inside the SBOC…IYKYK.

Three Things I’m Thinking About This Week

  • How to Build a Collaboration - If you’re looking for a fresh coat of paint on your business, consider a collaboration with another brand/company. Teaming up with a non-competitive brand that targets the same audience can give you access to their audience and a new campaign to ignite your social media and content. How do you go about building a collaboration that works? Check out this clip from Businessing with Pat Miller where I break it down.

  • (New) 15-Minute Fix It Claude Sessions - You need to see what I’m doing with Claude to believe how much of an impact it’s having on my business. To do that, I’m launching a free 15-minute fix it session. You bring a business challenge or process frustration and I’ll show you how Claude Cowork can tackle it. I’ll also show you some of the automations and dashboards I’ve built that have changed my business. Here’s the link to grab one of the calls!
And, don’t forget, I’m launching a new Claude Cowork Cohort next Thursday, August 6. More details here: Claude Training for Small Business Owners

  • (Last Call) Small Business Owners Community Conference Tickets Price Increase TOMORROW! - Our 6th annual Small Business Owners Conference sponsored by Athena Legal Solutions and Money Masters Bookkeeping is in September and you need to be there. If you’ve been meaning to get your ticket you want to act before 8/1 because tickets are going up $100. Don’t miss it this year, it’s going to be great!
