Exactly How to Name Your Next Offer
750 Idea Slams in, the question I get asked more than any other one has nothing to do with pricing or marketing. People want to know how to name the thing.
I believe in three steps to help you find a clear, memorable name:
Step one: name the transformation rather than the description. "Deep Dive Mastermind" is technically accurate and nobody is ever going to repeat it out loud. So I asked an owner what actually happens to people after they go through hers, and the answer was that they get their life back, which is a transformation people are seeking. That’s something you can take to market.
Step two: Cookie Monster language. He doesn't ask for a bespoke gluten free organic dessert, he says me like cookie, and you got it the first time you heard it. Keep your language radically simple and use words people use. Not jargon.
Step three: Use alliteration and the sounds-like twist. Swap mastermind for brotherhood and you've got the Life Back Brotherhood. Or, if targeted at women, the “Life Back Ladies” (etc.)
You can also use the “sounds-like twist” to find a phrase or familiar term and tweak it for your use. I created a sales habit tracker and I needed a name. Using the transformation - sale - I ended up with Sale, Seal, Seal Team 6, “Sale Team!”
If your name is boring because the clever one felt unprofessional, you’re losing the chance to be memorable. Play with your next offer’s name and you could come up with something great. And, if you can’t, join me for an Idea Slam and I’d love to help you on-air during Businessing with Pat Miller. I’d love to have you as my guest on the show.

Three Things I’m Thinking About This Week
Did You Grow or Just Raise Prices? - The July Fiserv Small Business Index came out this week showing small business sales up 1.6% but transaction counts DOWN 1.6%. In other words, we’re making more money from fewer clients. As you’re looking at your 2026 numbers, are you seeing a similar trend? Are you seeing “growth” on your topline revenue that can be attributed to the inflation of prices?
Last moments of Summer - Look at the calendar. August 7. These are the last few weekends of Summer and before you know it, the kids will be in school, the temps will be cooling, and the entire country will evolve into a different posture. Whatever it is you do during the Summer make sure to do it in full force RIGHT NOW. Garden, Golf, Run, Baseball, Beaches, Biking - I don’t care. That extra hour of work this afternoon can wait until October. I’m serious - get out there!
Small Business Owners Community Conference - The Countdown is on for the 6th annual Small Business Owners Conference sponsored by Athena Legal Solutions and Money Masters Bookkeeping. This year’s event in September is the room where you FIND YOUR PEOPLE. You’ll be surrounded by others that know what you’re building, have shared what you’re facing, and they’re ready and willing to collaborate with you. It’s a room like no other - Get your ticket now!
