Everybody Quits - Just Don’t Give Up

In the course of building your small business you’re going to have good days and bad days, good weeks and bad weeks, good quarters and bad quarters. And about once every couple of weeks, you're going to hate your business, hate your life, and want to quit.

I say, good. Go ahead and quit. But, don’t give up.

Here's how you quit: Log off, put your phone in the drawer, and get away from the screens. Hit a golf ball, walk the dog, exercise, have a beer, stare at the sunset. It doesn't matter what you do. Get a good night's sleep, and then get back to it the next day.

Everybody quits. If a small business owner tells you, "Oh, I never quit my business," liar. We all quit. The reason why we’re all still here is that we refused to give up.

If building your business was just about the money, we’d work for someone else and slash our stress by 10000%. But’s not just about the money. You’re building your business because you’re trying to prove something. Trying to fix something. Trying to live up to a vision or calling that you have in your head.

It's okay to quit, but don't give up. Your passion and purpose is worth more than that.

This week on Businessing w/Pat Miller

What I'd Tell Myself on My First Day in Business - I share the seven things I'd tell myself on day one of running a small business, including why you should embrace selling and why you should take email off your phone. Lisa Raebel from Rebel Girl Revenue joins me to talk about planning your revenue without just guessing and hoping. And I send up a flare about my to-do list, which Claude has turned into a to-done list. New episodes drop every Monday morning. Three Things I’m Thinking About This Week

  • Connecting your software to Claude/Chat GPT unlocks so much opportunity. I've connected Ahrefs and Figma to my Claude, and the results have been phenomenal. Some of the most complex software can be as easy as a conversation once you hand over the keys to your AI junior employee to drive. Make sure you're connecting your Claude to everything you can.

  • (new) Basic Claude Training and Beer - I’m hosting the tastiest AI training event in history. Join me on Wednesday, November 18 at Lou Malnati's in Brookfield, for salad, pizza, beer/wine, and Basic Claude Training with a workshop all for one price. (Yes, the beer/wine is INCLUDED.) The food and networking begins at 5:00, class at 5:30, and we’ll be done by 7:30.

  • Time is running out to sell stuff in 2026 - We're in a sprint toward the holidays. Thanksgiving is three weeks from yesterday, and soon you will not be able to get the attention of your ideal customers. If you have a project or a major deal you need to close, you have three weeks to get it done. Don't delay. Get aggressive.

Now, GO SELL SOMETHING!
