Did You Hire the Wrong Person? Find Out.
Somebody on your team isn't working out, you've known it for a while, and you don’t know what to do.
And, you’re not crazy about firing that person because you know the day they leave, the work lands back on you.
Here’s how you know if that person can be kept or if they need to go ASAP:
1 - Did they ever did the job well? If they did, you didn't hire wrong. Something changed, and your job is to go find out what.
2 - Did you ever write down what good looks like in their role? If you never did it's a training problem. That’s 100% on you and you have have a great employee waiting for direction.
3 - When you correct them, do they respond? Leadership IQ followed 20,000 new hires, 46 percent of them washed out inside 18 months, and 89 percent of those failures came down to attitude, not skill. The person who nods, agrees with you, and never changes a thing is that 89 percent. THEY need to go.
Don’t forget, waiting has a price. Pay somebody $50,000 to deliver 60 percent of the job and you’re losing about $1,667 a month. Six months of ducking the conversation is ten grand.
Go find out right now if they’re worth saving. They deserve the attention and your company deserves the decision.

Three Things I’m Thinking About This Week
Your Work is Your Joy - I had the chance to host a small group event on Tuesday with four of our long-time SBOC members. It felt SO GOOD to reconnect with them, hear about their business, and brainstorm a little bit. There’s something about spending time immersed in your work (mine, helping business owners win,) that brings a joy so strong it feels like play. Never apologize for it and when you’re feeling a little roughed up - get back to the core of the business. I promise you it will feel great.
Inspiration for Your Business from Denny’s - I’ve got to hand it to the place I worked (as a waiter) and visited at all hours of the night for a French Slam, All Bacon, Scrambled Eggs w/Cheese…Denny’s has done something inspiring. They analyzed their utilization time and realized they had a full kitchen and no customers during the middle of the day. They decided to go into corporate catering and it’s WORKING. That’s kinda smart. For you - where are you underutilized and could YOU offer what you do to a non-traditional audience? Think about that and pass the syrup.
25 Days until #SBOC26 - Small Business Owners Community Conference - The Countdown is on for the 6th annual Small Business Owners Conference sponsored by Athena Legal Solutions and Money Masters Bookkeeping. In the past 2 weeks, we’ve sold ten tickets to the event. We still have room to fit you in, you can’t dilly nor dally much longer. C’mon, you’re going to regret it f you don’t join us! And - NEW INFORMATION - If you can only make one day, let me know and I’ll sell you a one day ticket. - Get your ticket now!

Most owners don't think much about their printing until they need it. The postcard for the grand opening, the banner for the booth, the business cards you hand someone who actually matters. It's fine, right up until it looks cheap. That's where Minuteman Press Brookfield comes in. Printing, marketing, and design, no minimum order, and a woman-owned shop right here in Brookfield that treats a run of 25 like it matters as much as a run of 2,500. Got something coming up that needs to look like you meant it? Mention this SBOC ad and take 20 percent off your print order through November 13 at minutemanbrookfield.com.
